Mississauga News The Mississauga Wolverines are Ontario's under-17 boys basketball champions after winning the recent provincial tourney in Waterloo. The Wolverines defeated a squad from the Toronto Jewish Community Centre 66-59 to win gold in the tournament's top division. They had advanced to the championship final with a 58-55 win over eventual bronze medalists Bounce CIA, an outfit consisting of players from across the Greater Toronto Area.Wolverines coach Phil Dixon said his squad displayed the fundamentals needed to succeed in the tournament. "We entered the playoffs with determination," Dixon said. "I am so proud of the boys, who played with sportsmanship and a high level of skill and intelligence." In round-robin play, the Wolverines defeated Toronto's Youth Association for Academics, Athletics and Character Education 53-43. They took a 74-62 count from Windsor's Riverside Falcons and won 67-52 over the St. David Blues from Woodbridge. |
